Healome Therapeutics Closes £2 Million Seed Round Led by Empirical Ventures to Advance Eye-Drop Matrix Technology for Ocular Surface Diseases

BIRMINGHAM, England, July 7, 2026 — Healome Therapeutics (“Healome”), a University of Birmingham spinout developing a proprietary eye-drop matrix technology for ocular surface diseases, has closed a GBP£2 million oversubscribed seed financing round led by Empirical Ventures, with participation from DEBRA Research, Cure EB, Oshen Bio and existing investor SFC Capital. Proceeds will support pre-clinical development, manufacturing scale-up, regulatory engagement with the MHRA and FDA, and progression toward first-in-human studies expected in 2027.

The problem: poor retention limits eye-drop effectiveness

Conventional eye drops clear from the ocular surface in minutes, driving dosing regimens of up to 20 times per day and contributing to treatment adherence rates as low as 20% in chronic-use populations. Dry eye, the most well-known ocular surface condition, has an estimated global market size of USD$5 billion and affects over 350 million people. The broader ocular surface disease opportunity exceeds USD$12 billion across multiple indications.

The Healome solution: structured polymers, longer residence time

Healome’s eye-drop matrix behaves like a liquid when dropped on the eye, then restructures to form a clear, lubricating and protective matrix. The platform can deliver a range of drugs, from small molecules to complex biologics, and has been used to deliver an anti-scarring biologic drug in a standard pre-clinical model of severely injured and infected corneas, resulting in rapid corneal healing with minimal side-effects.

The platform is being developed for dry eye disease, ocular surface inflammation, corneal injury, rare diseases associated with severe ocular surface damage and chronic drug delivery. Healome holds five patent families covering the underlying matrix architecture, which is built on established pharmaceutical- and food-grade polymers structured into proprietary architectures, avoiding complex chemical modifications that can create manufacturing or regulatory issues.

Rare disease application: Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB)

EB is a rare genetic condition affecting approximately 500,000 people globally, of whom an estimated 5-20% experience ocular complications including chronic pain and recurrent corneal abrasions with a high risk of sight-threatening scarring. The unmet needs of patients and families living with EB were highlighted in the Netflix documentary Matter of Time. Investment from DEBRA Research and Cure EB will support Healome’s work on EB-associated ocular complications.

Founding team and origin

Healome was co-founded by Professor Liam Grover, Professor Tony Metcalfe, Dr Richard Moakes and Dr Richard Williams who serves as CEO. The team combines over 80 years’ experience across biomaterials, regenerative medicine and drug development, with six peer-reviewed publications underpinning research that originated at the University of Birmingham’s Healthcare Technologies Institute.

Richard Williams, CEO of Healome Therapeutics, said:

“Using our matrix to extend residence time of novel and existing therapeutics opens the door to reduced dosing, better adherence and ultimately improved outcomes across a range of indications. This financing lets us drive the platform toward the clinic.”

Johnathan Matlock, Co-Founder and General Partner at Empirical Ventures, said:

“Healome targets a quantifiable bottleneck – drug residence time on the ocular surface – with a manufacturing-friendly approach built on well-characterised polymers. The approach and the data, demonstrating how the team are building upon this to unlock further therapeutic value on the eye, is what convinced us this is a category-defining platform rather than an incremental formulation play, with credible read-across from dry eye through to rare ocular diseases.”

Dr. Christoph Coch, MD, Managing Director at DEBRA Research, said:

“For many people living with EB, the condition not only affects the skin but also the eyes. Blistering and wounds can occur spontaneously or be triggered by friction, dryness or irritation, often leading to severe pain, impaired vision and a significant impact on daily life. As there are currently no specific treatments for these ocular complications, we look forward to supporting Healome in their effort to develop patient-friendly and effective therapeutic approaches in this area. With this investment, we are continuing our commitment to accelerate the development of treatments that address the urgent unmet needs of people living with EB.”

Linea Energy and Crux Close Tax Equity Financing for 172 MWdc Michigan Solar Project

SAN FRANCISCO, July 6, 2026 — Linea Energy (“Linea”), a U.S.-based renewable energy developer and independent power producer that is sponsored by EnCap Investments L.P. (“EnCap”), today announced the closing of a tax equity financing with Crux for its Watertown solar project (“Watertown” or the “Project”). Watertown is a 172 MWdc utility-scale solar energy facility located in Sanilac County, Michigan.

The Watertown financing package includes a single-investor tax equity commitment from Crux. This tax equity commitment is the final commercialization transaction for the Watertown project. Linea previously announced a $299 million project debt raise comprised of a construction-to-term loan, a tax equity bridge loan, and a letter of credit facility. The debt financing was led by Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (“Santander”), with participation from Société Générale, S.A., Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale, and Truist Bank. With this investment from Crux, the total capital raise for the project totals $457 million.

The Watertown project is contracted under a 25-year power purchase agreement (“PPA”) with Consumers Energy, a regulated Michigan utility operating under the jurisdiction of the Michigan Public Service Commission.

“Watertown represents exactly the kind of project Linea was built to execute — a large-scale, long-term clean energy asset paired with creditworthy offtake and an efficient financing structure. Linea’s acquisition of the Project in December 2024, and subsequent completion of development, commercialization, financing, and conversion to construction reflects the strength and depth of the Linea platform” said Cassidy DeLine, Chief Executive Officer of Linea Energy. “We’re proud to be bringing meaningful economic benefits to Sanilac County and clean, reliable power to Michigan consumers. We are grateful to Crux, Santander, and our full financing team for their partnership in getting this project to the construction phase.”

“Watertown is a strong example of the high-quality projects that define the market today — long-tenor contracted revenue and a financing structure that brings together the right capital in the right form. We’re pleased to support Linea Energy as they bring this project to market and look forward to continuing to deploy capital alongside next-gen independent power producers like Linea as clean energy demand continues to grow,” said Yonette Chung McLean, Chief Capital Officer of Crux.

Now under construction, Watertown is expected to support approximately 150 construction jobs and generate enough clean energy to power approximately 25,126 Michigan homes annually on the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (“MISO”) grid, roughly equivalent to every home in a city the size of Pontiac. Commercial operations are expected to begin in mid-2027. Over the project’s operating life, Watertown is projected to deliver $16.4 million in local property tax revenue to Sanilac County and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 148,389 metric tons annually, supporting a cleaner, more resilient energy grid across Michigan.

This tax equity closing marks another significant milestone in Linea’s growth as a leading independent power producer in the U.S. renewable energy market.

CurifyLabs Raises $14M Series A to Power the Future of Personalized Medicine

Investment from Sandwater, HealthCap, and Tesi will enhance supply chain, customer support, and R&D

HELSINKI and JACKSONVILLE, Fla., July 6, 2026 — CurifyLabs, a health technology company transforming how personalized medicines are made, today announced the closing of a $14 million Series A funding round. The round was co-led by Sandwater and HealthCap, with participation from Tesi (Finnish Industry Investment Ltd.) and existing investors, including Lifeline Ventures. U.S. customers and employees also participated in the round.

Proceeds will be used to expand U.S. operations, strengthen supply chain infrastructure, enhance customer support, and accelerate product innovation.

CurifyLabs’ Compounding System Solution (CSS) combines proprietary software, GMP-manufactured excipient bases, and advanced 3D printing technology to automate the preparation of personalized medications. With advanced quality control processes built in, the CSS produces tailored doses and dosage forms with greater precision and speed than the manual processes typically used in pharmacies today.

Pharmacies in 21 U.S. states and across Europe use CurifyLabs technology to compound and dispense thousands of doses every day. As the company continues to scale, it will invest in its supply chain to ensure its growing network of pharmacy partners has what it needs, when it needs it.

“Personalized medicine is one of the most important frontiers in healthcare enabling better patient outcomes and is experiencing solid growth. We are enabling more pharmacies to deliver personalized medicine in a safer and more efficient way,” said Morten E. Iversen, partner at Sandwater. “CurifyLabs has built something rare — technology that combines clinical rigor with the speed and precision that busy pharmacy teams depend on. We are excited to support their rapid growth in the U.S. and beyond.”

“We have backed more than 136 life sciences companies over nearly three decades, and what sets the best founders apart is their ability to combine scientific depth with real-world execution,” said Daniel Karsberg, partner at HealthCap. “The CurifyLabs team has done exactly that.”

“CurifyLabs is the kind of company we want to support — innovative, globally ambitious, and built on deep scientific expertise,” said Joni Karsikas, Investment Director at Tesi. “Their growth in the U.S. is further proof that Finnish health technology can compete and win on the world stage.”

“This investment reflects the conviction our partners have in what we’re building,” said Charlotta Topelius, CEO and Founder, CurifyLabs. “We have set a high bar for clinical rigor, product quality, and customer support, and this funding gives us the resources to raise that bar further.”

The funding will support ongoing development of the CurifyLabs platform, including its most recent product, the PharmaPrinter Aurum, which compounds up to nine times faster than manual processes. CurifyLabs’ technology is ISO 13485 certified and designed in compliance with FDA 503A/503B standards for non-sterile compounding.

Keyfactor Announces $1B+ Strategic Growth Investment Led by Summit Partners to Expand Leadership in Securing the AI and Post-Quantum Enterprise

ATLANTA and STOCKHOLM, July 6, 2026 — Keyfactor, the leader in trust infrastructure for the AI and quantum era, today announced a $1 billion+ strategic growth investment led by Summit Partners. The transaction reflects the increasing strategic urgency around machine identity security, reinforcing Keyfactor’s industry leadership at a pivotal moment for enterprise security. The new investment will help accelerate the company’s global scale and growth initiatives, enabling product innovation, geographic expansion, team building and strategic acquisitions. Following the close of the transaction, existing investors, including Insight Partners and Sixth Street Growth, will maintain significant ownership in Keyfactor.

“Trust infrastructure has become the foundation that every enterprise, government agency, and AI-driven organization depends on, and Keyfactor is the platform built to manage it at scale,” said Jordan Rackie, Chief Executive Officer, Keyfactor. “This investment is a powerful validation of what our team has built and where we are headed. Summit Partners shares our conviction that the opportunity in front of us has never been larger, and this partnership gives us the resources and runway to capture it. For our customers and partners, this is a moment of continuity and acceleration: the same leadership, the same mission, and an even stronger platform.”

Four forces are converging to make trust infrastructure a board-level priority: AI-driven identity sprawl, shrinking certificate lifespans, tightening regulatory requirements, and the migration to post-quantum cryptography (“PQC”). Machine identities already outnumber human identities by orders of magnitude and continue to multiply faster than organizations can manage with fragmented tools and manual processes. Governments are reinforcing that urgency through new policy initiatives, including the White House’s June 2026 executive orders to accelerate the nation’s transition to post-quantum cryptography ahead of 2030. Trust can no longer be configured once and left alone. It must be continuously managed.

Meeting that challenge requires bringing these fragmented pieces under one roof. Keyfactor helps organizations manage digital trust through a unified approach rather than a collection of disconnected tools. The company’s Trust Control Plane is designed to provide centralized visibility into the machine identities, cryptographic assets, and trust systems that underpin digital operations, while automating key aspects of lifecycle management and supporting consistent governance across the enterprise. With Keyfactor, customers can achieve greater resilience, stronger security, and a measurable path to post-quantum readiness across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments, spanning devices, workloads, and AI agents.

“In our view, the convergence of post-quantum preparation, agentic AI governance, shrinking certificate lifespans, and evolving regulatory expectations is creating an increasingly urgent need for a unified, enterprise-grade platform like Keyfactor’s,” said Andy Collins, a Managing Director at Summit Partners. “We believe the Keyfactor team has built a category-defining company with deep customer relationships, a highly differentiated solution, and a demonstrated ability to support organizations operating in some of the world’s most complex and regulated environments. Unlike point solutions that address a single stage of the certificate lifecycle, Keyfactor offers an end-to-end platform spanning cryptographic discovery, issuance, and ongoing management.”

With accelerating year-over-year revenue growth and a record of strong profitability, Keyfactor is scaling from a position of financial strength. The company issues and manages billions of machine identities globally each year, helping more than 2,500 customers worldwide secure and automate trust at scale. Today, Keyfactor supports 50% of the largest banks in the U.S. and Europe, 80% of leading U.S. retailers, and over 40% of Fortune 100 companies with deep penetration in financial services, banking, technology, healthcare, telecom, and the U.S. federal government. Earlier this year, the company achieved FedRAMP certification status to support federal agencies and other government customers, offering a cloud-based option for certificate lifecycle automation designed to support secure modernization efforts.

“Companies across industries and government entities are working to meet PQC-readiness before 2030, and we believe the market opportunity for Keyfactor is significant,” said Colin Mistele, a Managing Director at Summit Partners. “Keyfactor’s traction with early industry movers looking to prepare for compliance in the future, including those in the global financial services market, government and beyond, lays a solid foundation and builds confidence in the company’s potential in other markets.”

Upon the close of the transaction, both Andy Collins and Colin Mistele will join the Keyfactor Board of Directors.

“We are incredibly proud of what the Keyfactor team has built. The company has evolved from a market disruptor into a leader in machine identity management,” said Thomas Krane, Managing Director at Insight Partners and Board Member at Keyfactor. “Our conviction in the business is stronger than ever, and our decision to remain an active investor reflects our continued excitement for Keyfactor’s vision, leadership, and long-term growth potential.”

“Our enthusiasm for Keyfactor only continues to grow. Since our 2023 investment, the company has more than doubled in size, reflecting the strength of its leadership team and differentiated platform,” said Alex Katz, a Managing Director at Sixth Street Growth. “With demand for machine identity management and cryptographic security accelerating, we believe Keyfactor is well-positioned for its next phase of growth.”

Piper Sandler has served as financial advisor to Summit Partners, and Qatalyst Partners has served as financial advisor to Keyfactor.

Marlinspike Partners Closes Oversubscribed $127 Million Fund II to Rearm & Rebuild America

Marlinspike Disruptive Technology Fund II will invest in early-stage companies executing at the intersection of national security and American industrial strength.

ARLINGTON, Va., July 2, 2026 — Marlinspike Partners, a venture capital firm investing in dual-use technologies with national security and commercial applications, today announced the final close of Marlinspike Disruptive Technology Fund II at $127 million, surpassing its $75 million target.

Rearming and Rebuilding America is the most important mission of our time. With geopolitical tensions around the globe rising, the technological race to capture leadership in AI and robotics heating up, and de-globalization redrawing commercial relationships, the only guarantee of a bright future is a strong American military and economy.

The Fund II close comes at a critical time as AI and robotics are not only changing how wars are fought and won, but are also significantly increasing the strategic value of domestic industrial production. Marlinspike’s investments in rebuilding the industrial base to reclaim American dominance of global manufacturing will significantly increase America’s security and prosperity.

The oversubscribed Fund II will support Marlinspike’s continued investment in early-stage companies operating at the intersection of national security and next-generation industrials, with a focus on the United States and its allies. As industrial output gets progressively impacted by robotics and AI, Fund II will back companies developing technologies across artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, advanced manufacturing, and other mission-critical sectors.

“Marlinspike was built around the belief that maintaining American technological dominance requires investing in the companies rebuilding the industrial base and rearming the United States for the next generation of national security challenges,” said Neil Keegan, Co-Founder and CEO of Marlinspike Partners. “With Fund II, we are deepening our commitment to founders building technologies that can serve urgent defense needs while scaling into large commercial markets. We are high-conviction investors taking bold action before it’s obvious, funding companies shaping the next generation of industrial leadership.”

Marlinspike’s Fund II advances its strategy of building a generational investment firm focused on maintaining American technological leadership by investing in companies such as Anduril Industries, BrightAI, Layup Parts, Armada, JetZero, and others.

“We believe we are transitioning from a human-centric to an autonomy-centric world; from a world run and operated by humans to one run by AI and operated by robotics. We are at the early stages of the transition, and we expect to see meaningful acceleration of U.S. GDP growth in the next few years. We look for bold founders rebuilding the U.S. industrial base through grit and pushing the boundaries of engineering,” said Mislav Tolusic, Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Marlinspike Partners. “The Internet did not change how we make and drive cars; AI is changing both. The implications for national security and economic prosperity are clear: nations that master AI-enabled design, manufacturing, and autonomy will build faster, compete harder, and lead the next industrial era.”

Fund II is supported by legacy Marlinspike investors, notable family offices, Conway Investment Solutions, and leading institutional investors including Fairfax County Employees’ and Police Officers Retirement Systems. “We are delighted to be partnering with Neil Keegan, Mislav Tolusic, and the broader team at Marlinspike,” noted Katherine Molnar, Chief Investment Officer of the Fairfax County Police Officers Retirement System. “We share a constructive outlook on the investment opportunities ahead across Autonomy, Advanced Manufacturing, and Artificial Intelligence.” Such investments reflect a growing interest in technologies serving national security, defense innovation, and commercial industrial markets.

About Marlinspike Partners
Marlinspike was founded in 2020 and, following successful co-investments in companies such as Palantir and Shield AI, launched a series of venture funds focused on dual-use technologies addressing national security imperatives. Marlinspike Disruptive Technology Fund I launched in 2022 with positions including Anduril Industries, Armada, Voyager Technologies, and Elroy Air. Marlinspike Disruptive Technology Fund II followed in 2024 with positions in Layup Parts, Kodiak AI, BrightAI, and JetZero, among others. The firm invests in the convergence of AI, Autonomy, Advanced Manufacturing, and other critical national security sectors. Marlinspike is headquartered in Arlington, VA.
