Backflip Announces Formation of Asset Manager; $10M Corporate Equity Investment

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 14, 2025 — Backflip, a leading real estate FinTech platform transforming how investors access and deploy capital, today announced its strategic evolution into a tech-enabled asset manager. The vertically-integrated platform provides technology and capital solutions to residential real estate investors through its captive loan originator and servicer. Backflip’s newly-formed subsidiary (Backflip Asset Management, LLC) has approximately $175 million in assets under management.

In support of this strategy, the company raised $10 million in corporate equity this year from existing investors including FirstMark Capital, LiveOak Venture Partners, and Vertical Venture Partners. Concurrently, Backflip announced a new leadership structure, with Jake Rome promoted to Chief Executive Officer, which became effective in July 2025. Jake Co-founded the company in 2020 with Josh Ernst, and had previously served as Backflip’s Chief Investment Officer and Chief Operating Officer.

“This evolution represents a pivotal next step in Backflip’s journey,” said Jake, CEO. “We are responding to the significant demand from institutional private credit investors. By aligning our technology and capital, we are creating a new, more efficient model to deploy capital into single family investment strategies, which are notoriously difficult to access at scale. I am excited to lead our talented team as we build a best-in-class platform designed to deliver durable returns to our capital partners.”

This evolution builds on a period of growth. Backflip’s origination subsidiary has funded approximately $700 million in residential transition loans (RTL), and its servicing arm manages a portfolio of over 1,200 loans. The company recently launched a rental loan product (DSCR), and is piloting other capital solutions for investors including HELOCs and Home Equity Agreements (HEA).

As part of its platform expansion, Backflip also announced the promotion of Richard Porteous to Chief Investment Officer. Richard was previously the firm’s VP of Capital Markets and Portfolio Manager.

“Richard’s leadership will be integral as we expand our asset-backed investment strategies and grow assets under management,” continued Jake.” The launch of our rental loan product is a prime example of this strategy in action, allowing us to quickly scale a high-demand product.”

The equity raise positions Backflip for continued growth, and facilitates technology investments to scale the origination, servicing, and asset management functions.

Energy Exchange ElectronX Raises $30M Series A Round

ElectronX’s power derivatives market is backed by an elite consortium of global energy, quantitative trading, and technology venture capital firms

CHICAGO, Nov. 14, 2025ElectronX, the energy exchange built to enable precision risk management in U.S. electricity markets, today announced it has closed a $30 million Series A led by seed round investor DCVC, and joined by leading quantitative trading firms and energy venture funds XTX Markets, Five Rings, NGP, GTS, and JACS Capital.

Returning ElectronX investors Innovation Endeavors, Systemiq Capital, Equinor Ventures, and Shell Ventures also participated in the round.

With its Series A funding, ElectronX has raised more than $55 million to develop and operate the first U.S.-regulated, direct-access power derivatives market, scheduled to launch next month.

“ElectronX’s Series A captures the rising momentum from all industry angles for financial infrastructure innovations in U.S. power markets,” said Sam Tegel, CEO of ElectronX. “We are pleased to have DCVC lead this pivotal raise and welcome premier global trading firms XTX Markets, Five Rings and GTS to our investor ranks, alongside the energy venture experts at NGP and JACS Capital. As national demand for electricity continues to strain the grid, we look forward to providing the critically necessary intraday hedging tools for today’s volatile short-term power market very soon.”

“DCVC is excited to double down on ElectronX and lead their Series A round as they head into launch phase after earning CFTC approvals,” said Ali Tamaseb, a General Partner at DCVC. “ElectronX will fill a critical gap and play a much needed role in the electricity markets. It will directly support the electrification of the American industrial base and the transition to renewables, and it will help companies respond to the massive change in power requirements resulting from increasing data center demand. Like other DCVC portfolio companies in the energy space, ElectronX is working to fill a huge need with a novel deep tech solution.”

Based in Chicago, ElectronX was granted status as both a Designated Contract Market (DCM) and Designated Clearing Organization (DCO) by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in late August. Its regulated exchange and clearinghouse will offer small-sized, fully collateralized, and centrally cleared financial instruments linked to specific geographies and times of day on a direct-access platform.

ElectronX’s first products include hourly bounded futures and binary options in 1 MWh sizes for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market, enabling immediate access to intraday hedging strategies for both long- and short-volatility seekers of all types and sizes. Day-of and day-ahead contract suites mirror current physical power trading and battery asset risk management strategies, and are designed to limit losses and maximize profits in regularly observed times of price stress.

Contract suites for PJM Interconnection LLC (PJM), California Independent System Operator (CAISO), and other regional transmission organizations (RTOs) and independent system operators (ISOs) are planned for launch in 2026.

Sensetics Raises $1.75M to Take Touch Sensing and Haptics into the Digital Age

PRINCETON, N.J., Nov. 13, 2025 — Sensetics, a next generation haptics and touch data company advancing the digital capture and transmission of realistic touch experiences and bridging the machine and physical worlds by bringing touch to AI, today announced it has raised $1.75mm in pre-seed funding to accelerate product development efforts for its breakthrough hardware and software platform. The majority of the round was funded in the Spring, co-led by MetaVC Partners and Fitz Gate Ventures, with participation from Blue Sky Capital and AIC Ventures.

Sensetics’ platform, featuring its Touch Signature programmable fabrics and AI-powered touch capture and editing tools, enable users to record, edit, and replay touch experiences with high fidelity—similar to how we record and reproduce sight and sound. Originating from research at UC Berkeley and Virginia Tech, the technology replicates key mechanoreceptor functions in human fingertips. This allows real-time recording and transmission of tactile data from devices such as robotic arms, surgical tools, wearables, and remote sensors, at human fingertip-level resolution. Durable and low latency, Sensetics supports touch data streaming in a broad array of structured and unstructured environments, creating a new class of physical data for automation and AI control.

Sensetics is pursuing a market opportunity exceeding $10 billion, across sectors where accurate force sensing and haptic feedback are critical. Target industries include transportation and logistics, manufacturing, medical robotics, and VR/AR touch controllers for professional training and simulation. Digitizing touch – a sense as fundamental as sight and sound – will launch an entirely new market for Sensetics, comparable to the digital transformation of video and audio.

The founding team combines top entrepreneurial and academic expertise:

  • Adam B. Hopkins, CEO – a veteran in high-tech startups and financial services; previously CEO and founder of Uniformity Labs; recognized inventor and scientific author.
  • Rayne Zheng, CTO – Professor at UC Berkeley and Director of the Berkeley Sensors & Actuators Center; published author in Nature and Science on materials, robotics, and AI.

“We see a pivotal moment at the intersection of human-machine interaction and touch technology,” said Hopkins. “Demand for haptic controllers and high resolution tactile sensors is surging in healthcare, industrial, aerospace, defense and robotics applications. Our mission is to make touch the next digital sense and to build a data platform for physical AI comparable in scale and importance to computer vision.”

“We’re excited to back Sensetics as it pioneers the next frontier of human-machine interaction,” said Chris Alliegro, Managing Partner at MetaVC Partners. “Digitizing touch is an extraordinarily complex challenge—one that Sensetics is solving through an elegant application of mechanical metamaterials. By unlocking high-fidelity tactile sensing and feedback, Sensetics is laying the foundation for a new generation of intelligent machines capable of perceiving and responding to the physical world with superhuman sensitivity and precision.”

“Sensetics squarely fits our investment thesis, because it is a deep tech company utilizing proprietary IP to create an entirely new industrial category that targets a massive market opportunity, and it has an outstanding founding team,” said Mark Poag, GP of Fitz Gate Ventures.
